So octane demo designed for 15.0.179 version should work in 15.0.244.
#OCTANE RENDER FUR SOFTWARE#
I have thought that any software designed for some version of other app should work in their future minor releases. The production build 15.0.244.16 is here for quite a long time. Thanks for an answer.įrancoise Hi Juanjo, I didn't know you are a developer of this Octane demo, that's great. I am looking forward to your new release, so I can try it myself in my loved Houdini. I tried the demo in Maya 2016, few times it restarted my computer, but the IPR is working and is a very nice feature.
#OCTANE RENDER FUR INSTALL#
I think X11 is an old terrbile dinosaur so Octane should be written using current technologies and not depend on something ancient, what do you think? And by the way when I install on my El Capitan X11 - the IPR will work? And the IPR render is the main feature what people from Octane on GPU expect and using the most for buliding scenes and fast preview. I have read somewhere that IPR is not working due to lack of X11. I would understand it when it will not work with 15.1 or 16 version of Houdini.

Hi Juanjo, I didn't know you are a developer of this Octane demo, that's great. This is the plugin online documentation: And a brief tutorial with the first steps with the plugin: The registered users have access to the plugin support forum to post all the bugs, the feature request and the amazing images and animations made with OctaneRender: Thanks to all the closed beta testers and to SideFX for their support in this project !!! -Juanjo We can provide the plugin for Houdini 13.0 by request if there is a studio working with this version. OctaneRender for Houdini currently doesn’t work in Houdini Apprentice and Houdini Indie because they do not support third party renderers.
#OCTANE RENDER FUR WINDOWS#
The plugin is currently available for Houdini and Houdini FX 14.0 for Windows 圆4 and Linux gcc4.8. And this is only the beginning, more features are planned for the next 2.x beta releases. The plugin supports all the Octane 2.2 features inside Houdini, and a lot of the Houdini tools, like instancing, fur, tessellated primitives, any kind of polygonal surfaces from simulations, like fluids, etc. The plugin will be updated on regular basis until reach the first stable production release. Octane is only worth it with a good graphics card.Hi, OctaneRender for Houdini 2.2 beta is now available for all Houdini users at reduced price. I previously had a single NVIDIA Quadro K4200 and it was way too slow for Octane to work well, path tracing was impossible. If you haven’t already, do the Octane Bench test and make sure your hardware is appropriate for getting the most out of Octane before committing. I get really fast, good-looking interior renders, and I can even automate rendering multiple views with the Badger plug-in, which is very helpful. Ultimately I think Octane is a good value as a service overall. I have also encountered a lot of bugs, more so than when I used VRay for Rhino, which is pretty frustrating but Octane support usually gets back to me fairly quickly. I do like how fast the rendering in Octane is with the new GeForce RTX 2080 Ti I am using, and the quality of the renders is very good and doesn’t take too long to get there. Using HDRI environment textures for lighting has made a big difference for me, since there are no great lighting rigs in the Rhino plug-in version as opposed to Cinema4D. You can learn a lot from the Cinema4D tutorials ( is excellent) but I have found that there is a learning curve to getting a good workflow depending on the type of work you are doing. You are right, there are very few tutorials for this workflow.

At work we currently have 3 designers all using Rhino 6 and Octane V4 for the last 6 months.
